THE COMPANY OF STRANGERS (2003)
THE COMPANY OF STRANGERS (2003)
Photographer Gus Powell would often spend his own lunch hours wandering midtown Manhattan making poetry and eventually taking pictures. The resulting book of street photography, featuring photographs from his series Lunch Pictures, feels romantic, nostalgic, and strikingly contemporary. Powell’s attention to the choreography of pedestrians is remarkable, as is his rendering of the midtown light, refracted by office buildings and glass. One of the most photographed places in the world still manages to have such a unique view through the lense of Powell in one of our favourite New York photobooks.
