Teenage Smokers is a seminal, raw document of youth subculture. Originating from a series of Polaroid portraits shot at a local Huntington Beach skatepark in 1994, Templeton’s lens captures underage kids indulging in the rebellion, posturing, and awkward vulnerability of adolescence. Published by Aaron Rose’s Alleged Press to coincide with Templeton's exhibition The Golden Age of Neglect, the photobook refrains from preaching or glorifying the habit, but instead frames the cigarette as a universal thread of adolescent identity that spans from California to Finland.
